Sketch

Started a class tonight over at the community college – a lower-level requirement for a certificate I'm after. Tonight, actually, was very low-level. We'll see how things develop. Might turn out to be, in the end, a good weekly excuse to get in a little drawing.

There's a great little A6-size sketchbook that stays in my brief-bag – so is pretty much with me wherever business of one kind or another takes me – but that hasn't seen use in about four years. Tonight it came out toward end of class – perhaps to find that it's got a future after all. Can't deny feeling some shame whenever I happen to notice it, & recall that two-thirds of its sheets are blank. (Its inaugural use, I observe, is dated 1/19/2000, for crying out loud!)

It's seen much better drawing than this, sad to have to say. (E.g., the first two examples here.) But then it's also seen a lot worse.

I'll point out here that there's a new page of small drawings of people – friends & family, a miscellany – in the sketch gallery, since the weekend.

OH, the stories I have to tell about sketchbooks with empty pages! LOL What is the certificate you are after?

Yeah, the sad truth is, in my experience, that one always wants a new sketchbook to feel 'inspired', and the growing collection, though worn on the outside from being carried around everywhere, are mostly fresh on the inside from lack of actual use.

The certificate is just for entry-level CAD. I've done enough variety of computer-based work over the years to know I don't actually like sitting in front of a computer all the time — but I know the day's coming when my work will tend to fit that pattern, so am starting (or rather starting again, after a false start a few yrs ago) to prepare to have these skills in pocket. (Not terribly challenging stuff to learn, if you're spatial-thinking-oriented, especially if you've got some 'old fashioned' board drafting.)

Nice, I like the so-called novice watercolor with the church. The digital self-portrait is excellent. Do you use a Wacom?

Hey, thanks for checking in here, Stejahen, and for compliments. My presence in the 'blogosphere' has always been a bit faint, and lately seems to be slipping further — both in posting & in looking at others' stuff. A quick glance tells me I've missed a lot of good things happening at your site.

That digital drawing was done on a Wacom tablet in Photoshop. It doesn't get a lot of use these days, but figured prominently in a push to gain graphics skills & attentiveness 6—8 years ago.

As my hunky husband is an artist, (and by golly a talented one) I am always finding his doodles by the computer, the phone, etc...

I consider each and every one a masterpiece.

True love.
